<h3>The Aluminum Extruders Council (AEC) announces the opening of application for the the Aluminum Extrusion Design Competition 2019. Applicants need to design a product or system featuring aluminum extrusions. The design must be original and make use of at least one extruded aluminum component. Winning designs will be those that best demonstrate the benefits of aluminum extrusions - whether by inventing a new product or improving an existing one.</h3><h3><strong>Eligibility:&nbsp;</strong></h3><ol><li>Must currently be enrolled as a student in high school, college/university, technical school, or graduate school to be eligible.</li><li>It is highly recommended to include a 3-D printed prototype of your component design.</li><li>Your extrusion design must fit within no larger than a 10-inch circle size to be considered for an award.</li><li>Provide as much support material as possible to illustrate the design, its utility and practicality (i.e., art boards, images &ndash; jpeg preferred &ndash; drawings, full and complete explanation of how your entry meets the four judging criteria)</li><li>Proper grammar and spelling is a must.</li></ol><h3><strong>Prizes:</strong></h3><p>Students have the chance to win a cash scholarship prize with their aluminum extrusion designs. Awards are sponsored by Bonnell Aluminum totaling $8,500. The winning entries in the Student Design Competition will be awarded in the following amounts:</p><ul><li>1st Place: $3,000.</li><li>2nd Place: $2,000.</li><li>3rd Place: $1,000.</li><li>Sustainable Design: $2,500.</li></ul><p>Note: Prizes will be split between team members for team submissions that win.</p><p><strong>Judging Criteria:</strong></p><p>Entries are judged based on the following criteria:</p><ol><li>Creativity: Innovative design, new application capability, methods to meet a new design challenge.</li><li>Practicality: Ease of fabrication and assembly, cost-effectiveness, use of extruded aluminum over other materials or processes.</li><li>Product /Process Advantage: Product/Process improvement: customization or improvement of extrusion processes, close tolerances, takes full advantage of extrusion capabilities to improve a product.</li><li>Market Impact/Potential: Design/product marketability and the likelihood of market success.</li></ol>
