An Opportunity to Win $20,000 in Create Future Design Contest 2018

Are you a product designer? Do you have an innovative product idea? Do you aspire to produce and introduce this idea to the market?

 Product designers worldwide are invited to participate in the Annual Create the Future Design Contest. 

You can choose to participate in one of the following seven categories:

[1] Aerospace & Defense: Product innovations with applications in the aerospace, aviation, and/or defense markets.

[2] Transportation: Products that enable movement of people and goods from one place to another.

[3] Consumer Products: Products that increase quality of life in the workplace, at home, during leisure time, or while traveling.

[4] Electronics: Products that improve computing, communications, sensing, test, and other fields that rely on advances in electronic components, boards and systems.

[5] Robotics: Products that speed, improve, or automate work, manufacturing, and research & development (R&D).

[6] Medical: Products that improve the efficiency and quality of healthcare.

[7] Sustainable Technologies: Products that reduce dependence on non-renewable energy resources, as well as products designed for other purposes using environmentally friendly materials or manufacturing processes.

Entries will be judged on these criteria:

[1] Innovation: What makes the design novel? Does it represent an important advance over the current state of the art?

[2] Manufacturability: How easy would it be to implement? Can it be cost-effectively manufactured/produced?

[3] Marketability: Does the idea have practical applications? Is there a well-defined, significant market for its use?

To be eligible, you must be 18 years of age or older. In case of a team entries, the team leader must be at least 18 years of age but there is no age requirement for other team members. Entries must be for product designs that are not yet in commercial production at the time of entry or were introduced to the commercial market within the last 12 months of entry date.

Winners will receive the following prizes:

[1] One Grand Prize: $20,000 USD

[2] First Prize in Each Category: HP deskside workstation computer. The winner in the Robotics category will also receive a copy of MapleSim modeling & simulation software from category sponsor Maplesoft which is $5,000 of value.

[3] 10 Popular Vote Prizes: The Top Ten Most Popular Entries, as voted on by contest site visitors, will each receive Nanodots Magnetic Constructors from Nano Magnetics.

[4] Top 100 Entries will receive a certificate of achievement suitable for framing

Winning entries will be featured in a special supplement to Tech Briefs magazine's November 2018 issue. The Medical Category winner will be spotlighted in the November 2018 issue of Medical Design Briefs magazine. Grand prize and category winners will be invited to a special awards reception and dinner in New York City on Friday, November 9.

The Create the Future Design Contest was launched in 2002 by the publishers of NASA Tech Briefs magazine to help stimulate and reward engineering innovation. The annual event has attracted more than 14,000 product design ideas from engineers, entrepreneurs, and students worldwide. The contest's principal sponsors are COMSOL and Mouser Electronics.
