Opportunity description
Bilpin International Ground for Creative Initiatives (BigCi) is an independent, artist run, not for profit artist residency program with a focus on supporting practicing artists by facilitating their projects. The program is flexible in the range of creative initiatives that interest the team, personal in the way it works with individual artists, quick in making decisions, energetic in development and implementation of projects, and keen to be involved in multidisciplinary collaborations.
Bilpin International Ground for Creative Initiatives (BigCi) invites international artists from various fields such as visual art, installation, multimedia, performance, literature, music, photography and filmmaking to participate in the BigCi Environmental Awards 2018.
For the project during the residency, artists choose to deal with particular environmental or natural science issues, explore ideas and concepts related to nature or use the opportunity to creatively respond to the unique wilderness. The focus of the awards is on the environment, but this is open to a wide range of interpretations, allowing participating artists to work on issues that are of most interest to them and which fit best with their artistic practice.
Two winning artists will each receive:
[1] Four free weeks of residency that can’t be split and must be taken within 12 months of the awards announcement (i.e. before 18 June 2019) unless there are special circumstances
[2] $2,000 of spending money which will be paid as follows: $500 on arrival, $1,000 at the end of week 2 (middle of residency) and $500 at the end of the residency
[3] Shared accommodation and work spaces for creative and professional development in a quiet environment, as well as artist support and project facilitation. The residency includes the use of shared living facilities, bathroom, kitchen, internet, electricity, and water
[4] An offer to be picked up from the nearest train station at Richmond and a weekly food shopping trip, but a car is strongly recommended
[5] Up to $2,000 in subsidies towards costs of travel to Sydney for their residency and will be provided upon receipt of the flight ticket
[6] Research assistance relevant to the project and the opportunity to present their work at BigCi Open Day
[7] The opportunity to explore the Wollemi, the Blue Mountains and the Gardens of Stone National Parks on guided walks
Please note: This residency doesn’t cover artistic collaborators, food, transport, insurance and art materials.
