Opportunity description
The Centre National de presse Norbert Zongo launches the 8th Edition of Norbert Zongo Investigative Journalism Award that rewards the best works of investigative journalism in Africa.
About the award
The competition will be in three categories:
- Newspapers & online press: applicants must send the original and a copy of the story, as well as the link of the story for the online press.
- Television: applicants must send 2 DVD copies of the story or a file (format of 26mn or 52 mn).
- Radio: applicants must send 2 audio CDs of the story or a file (format of 26mn or 52 mn).
Prize
- The winner of every category will receive a diploma, a trophy, and One Million CFA francs.
- The first winner of any category: the “GOLD SEBGO” 2019, will be awarded to the best work among the three winners. The laureate will receive an additional sum of one million (1,000,000) CFA francs, a diploma and a trophy symbolizing the "SEBGO D’OR".
Eligibility
- The Prize is open to all the professional working journalists in Africa or journalists collaborating with the African press.
- Stories must be published or broadcast between May 3, 2017, and May 3, 2019.
Required documents
- The application must include a declaration of candidature in writing with a complete indication of the identity of the candidate (last name, first names, pseudonym).
- The application must include a certificate of confirmation from the media employer or the media which have published their works.
- The application must include a C.V of the candidate, bearing his photograph.
- The application must include a handwritten and signed declaration authorizing the Norbert Zongo National Press Center to use his/her name, voice, images and the whole of their works in case they win, without any compensation and on all media supports, within the framework of publicity and public relations or information on the Prize.
Assessment criteria
- The professionalism of the author (through the respect of deontology).
- Strategies of the search for information.
- Relevance and originality of the covered subject.
- The interest of topic approached (can it be exploited).
- Evidence of the difficulties encountered by the author (checking the various sources of information for reliability).
- The editorial style (concrete, lively and accessible to everyone).
