Arab Reporters for Investigative Journalism (ARIJ), in partnership with the DW Academy, announces the opening for application to attend a workshop about the "Basics of Data Journalism" with the participation of 12 students who are currently studying journalism and media in Jordanian universities. The workshop will be held at the Hilton Hotel - Conference Palace, Dead Sea, Jordan, from the 28th-30th of November, 2018.
The workshop's aim:
During this workshop, participants will get to know:
- What data journalism is and how it evolved.
- How to search for stories by checking data.
- How to find data, sources, techniques, and data analysis and how it is presented to readers and viewers.
- The free electronic tools that help participants to view the data.
Participants will be able to attend the 11th ARIJ Annual Forum, which will be held from November 30th to December 2nd, 2018 at the Hilton Hotel as well.
More than 400 Arab journalists will participate in the ARIJ annual conference, most of whom worked with ARIJ to conduct in-depth investigations that revealed issues of public interest, as well as a number of senior Arab and international trainers. The conference will be held at Hilton - Conference Palace, Dead Sea, Jordan, under the theme: "The Future of Investigative Journalism in the Arab World: Aspirations, Tools and Techniques".
ARIJ invites students of journalism and media from Jordanian universities to start submitting applications for participation in the workshop which will contribute to the development of their technical skills.
The grant covers:
- Transportation from Amman to the hotel and return to Amman.
- Accommodation in the Dead Sea area.
- Meals.
- Participation in the closing ceremony at which the ARIJ Award 2018 will be distributed.
Conditions for participation in the workshop:
- Written text (300-500 words) explaining the motivational reasons for participating in this workshop and in the annual meeting of ARIJ and how it will reflect on your practical future.
- Written text (300-500 words) explaining the importance of investigative journalism and data journalism to serve the community, achieve accountability, transparency, good governance, and address issues of concern to local communities.
- One copy of one of your undergraduate studies in the fields of Media: Achievement, Reportage, News Report.
