Opportunity description
The University of Waikato in partnership with the Bay of Plenty Rugby Union is offering one doctoral scholarship to international students to undertake doctoral research with the Faculty of Health, Sport and Human Performance at the Adam’s Centre for High Performance based in New Zealand. The scholarship is designed to enhance the chosen applicant’s understanding of Human Performance Science and Sport Technology skills as they relate to ‘rugby athlete performance’. The scholarship will be awarded based on academic excellence, and the successful applicant must commence doctoral study within 2 months of accepting the scholarship, otherwise the offer will be withdrawn. During the 3-year doctoral scholarship, applicants are expected to assist the Bay of Plenty Rugby coaching staff with athlete monitoring during on-field and gym-based training sessions not exceeding 15 hours per week, in addition to providing the union with an annual report on the progress of their research. Applicants already enrolled in a doctoral degree at the university may apply, however, the selection will favor applications from new students. Applicants must:
[1] Have a minimum grade average of A- for the previous two years of full-time study (or equivalent if part-time)
[2] Have a work experience including prior research and work with sport technology and rugby athletes
[3] Demonstrate how their intended research will align with supporting the development of rugby athlete performance
The scholarship offers a stipend of up to $15,000 per year payable in monthly installments. Tuition fees for enrollment in the doctoral program will also be covered.
