Prestigious Erasmus Mundus scholarships are available for well qualified applicants to the International Master in Tourism Development & Culture (TourDC). The University of Glasgow is the leading partner in the consortium of universities that have developed this joint Masters programme. Other degrees awarding partners include the University of Malta, Lund University (Sweden) and University Institute Lisbon.

This two-year Erasmus Mundus Joint Master Degree (EMJMD) explores contemporary theoretical and practical issues in tourism development, with a cultural focus, providing critical analytical skills. Mobility periods will give you the opportunity to study at the University of Glasgow and its world-class consortium partners.
Eligibility for the Scholarship
- Applicants must hold an offer of a place for the programme (unconditional or conditional) for September 2019 entry.
- EMJMD student scholarships can be offered to students from any region of the world - however, no more than three from the same country or with the same nationality will be awarded in the same intake. The scholarship’s terms depend on your country of origin/residence.
Programme Structure
The programme is structured around a series of mobility periods across two years where you study at a combination of three partner universities for one semester, taking a mix of core and optional courses. Teaching is delivered via a mix of lectures and seminars, with occasional guest lectures and opportunities for work placements. The final mobility period can be spent with one of the semester one, two or three partners, depending on your chosen topic of the dissertation, under the supervision of a team from at least two universities. The programme also includes an optional two-week summer school at Wageningen University (Netherlands) at the end of year one.

- Semester 3 (Sep - Jan) study track choice – Lund University: Innovation and sustainability in the tourism industry OR University Institute of Lisbon: Tourism management including urban, events, retail and hospitality (Optional placement available)
- Semester 4 (Feb - Jul) Dumfries, Malta, Lund or Lisbon: Independent study, dissertation.
English Language Requirements
For applicants whose first language is not English, the University sets a minimum English Language proficiency level.

For international students, the Home Office has confirmed that the University can choose to use these tests to make its own assessment of English language ability for visa applications to degree level programmes. The University is also able to accept an IELTS test (Academic module) from any of the 1000 IELTS test centers from around the world and we do not require a specific UKVI IELTS test for degree level programmes. We therefore still accept any of the English tests listed for admission to this programme.
Please note that these requirements are for applicants to be accepted to study at the University of Glasgow, applicants must receive an acceptance letter from the university first, -through the online portal- then apply to obtain a scholarship.
Value
The EMJMD student scholarship includes:
- A contribution to your participation costs (including tuition fees, full insurance coverage and any other mandatory costs related to your participation in the EMJMD study programme.
- A contribution to your travel and installation costs.
- A monthly subsistence allowance for the entire duration of the EMJMD study programme.
