Opportunity description
The Institute for Advanced Study at Central European University in Budapest (IAS CEU) invites applications for the Fritz Thyssen Junior fellowships for the academic year 2019-2020. Fellowships are available in all research areas of the social sciences and humanities, and they run for the whole academic year (10 months, from September 1 to June 30) or for the Fall or Winter semesters (6 months, from September 1 to February 28 or January 1 to June 30). Junior fellowships are renewable for another year in exceptional cases and only after an external review process.
Eligibility criteria:
[1] Applicants must hold a PhD or equivalent in the social sciences or humanities at the time of their application
[2] Applicants with publications in internationally recognized scholarly outlets are especially encouraged to apply
[3] Applicants may be of any nationality and there are no thematic restrictions (other than proposals in the social sciences and humanities)
[4] Full-time CEU employees and students are not eligible to apply for 5 years after the end of their studies/contract
[5] Part-time/temporary employees of CEU are not eligible for 1 year after their contract ended
[6] Former fellows of IAS CEU are not eligible to apply until a period of 7 years has passed since their previous fellowship
[7] Applicants are expected to be able to communicate fluently in English as it is the working language of the institute and CEU
Benefits:
Junior fellows receive a net monthly stipend of €2,000 and accommodation to help support their stay in Budapest. IAS CEU provides a stimulating environment in which the fellows can devote themselves to their research and share their work with peers through weekly seminars and other community programs. Fellows have access to all CEU facilities, including seminar and conference space, computer services, and library resources. They also benefit from CEU’s vibrant international atmosphere, its strong ties in the CEE region and its location in culturally rich Budapest.
