Free Online Course about Managing Behaviour for Learning

Future Learn offers a free online course about managing behavior for learning. Managing Behavior for Learning is a continuing professional development (CPD) course designed for teachers of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) subjects, focusing mainly on the context of UK secondary schools and colleges. Although the course draws from examples experienced in the UK, the material covered is relevant to an international audience and to non-STEM teachers.

This course will help teachers to maintain discipline and transform their classroom. They will explore how their behavior influences their students, as well as the techniques which help them to achieve consistency in managing behavior, recognize positive behavior, and build trust in the classroom.

  1. Managing one's own behavior to influence their students’ behavior.
  2. Using rules and routines to achieve consistency: routines, rules, and habits.
  3. Intelligent use of recognition to motivate students: recognition, classroom techniques, and communicating home.
  4. Reducing friction when students behave badly: diverting and diffusing, scripted interventions.
  5. Reparation and restorative practice: punishments and restoration.

What you will learn:

  1. Assess how teacher's own behavior influences the behavior of their students.
  2. Apply recognition intelligently to motivate students.
