Fully-Funded Exchange Opportunity for Egyptian Student Leaders from the US Embassy 2019

The US Embassy in Egypt invites Egyptian undergraduate student leaders with a deep understanding of the United States and leadership skills to participate in the 2019 Study of the United States Institutes for Student (SUSI) Leaders Programs. The programs are intensive academic programs that will take place in June and July of 2019, as they will include seminar discussions, readings, group presentations and lectures. The coursework and classroom activities will be complemented with local educational travel, site visits, leadership activities, and volunteer opportunities.

Programs:

The Institute on Women’s Leadership:

This five-week academic residency will examine the history and participation of women in public life in the United States.

Institute for Student Leaders on Religious Freedom and Pluralism:

This five-week academic residency will explore U.S. history, society, and institutions within the context of religious freedom, pluralism, and interfaith dialogue.

Institute for Student Leaders on Entrepreneurship and Economic Development:

This five-week academic residency will provide participants with an overview of entrepreneurial approaches by reviewing the development, history, challenges, and successes of U.S. entrepreneurial enterprises.

Eligibility criteria:

1. Between 18 and 25 years of age
2. Currently residing and studying in Egypt
3. Enrolled as an undergraduate at a public or private university in Egypt and has good academic standing
4. Have a strong interest in the program of choice
5. Not enrolled in his/her final semester of study
6. Has a solid command of written and spoken English
7. Demonstrate strong leadership qualities, and have demonstrated a commitment to community and extracurricular university activities
8. Have little or no prior study or travel experience in the United States or elsewhere outside of their home country
9. Be willing and able to fully participate in an intensive academic program, community service, and educational travel
10. Committed to returning to Egypt upon program completion

During the academic residency, participants will also have the opportunity to engage in educational and cultural activities outside of the classroom. Successful applicants will be provided with international/ domestic airfare, housing, a living stipend, tuition, books/ incidental allowances, and health insurance.
