Opportunity description
The Biozentrum encourages talented, ambitious and highly motivated young scientists from around the world to apply for the prestigious and much sought after “Biozentrum PhD Fellowships” offered by the Biozentrum Basel International PhD Program. In contrast to many other PhD student programs that aim at a broad recruitment of many candidates, the “Biozentrum PhD Fellowships” are awarded on a competitive basis. As recipient of a fellowship, fellows have the unique chance to work in one or two different research groups of their choice, before deciding where to do their PhD. Fellows will also receive a number of other incentives to foster their scientific excellence and career prospects.
The fellowship is independent and not tied to a research group or project. Fellows can perform one to two (in rare cases three) two-month rotations in different research groups before deciding on the research group for heir PhD thesis (pending approval of the respective group leader). The PhD thesis underlies the general rules and guidelines of the University of Basel and fellows will automatically be part of the International PhD Program of the Biozentrum.
The fellowship covers:
[1] Full financial support for PhD thesis, typically 3 - 4 years including rotations.
[2] A personal, annual allowance to attend meetings, acquire books or a computer.
[3] An annual study trip to a city with ties to Siemens.
[4] Scientific meetings and networking opportunities with current students and alumni of the “Biozentrum PhD Fellowships” program.
[5] A personal certificate of acceptance into the fellowship program.
[6] Support for the preparation of the personal CV and postdoctoral application by Biozentrum faculty members in the Program Committee.
[7] Financial support for travel to postdoctoral interviews at the end of the PhD thesis.
Applicants must:
[1] Be talented and motivated graduates.
[2] Have background in biological or biomedical sciences, physics, chemistry, mathematics and/or computer science.
[3] Hold a university qualification equivalent to a Master’s degree (Diploma, DEA, etc.)
