Opportunity description
International Center for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology (ICGEB) is offering short-term fellowships for pre-doctoral studies to fund ongoing collaborative research between scientists at laboratories in Italy, India, and South Africa, with the aim of facilitating access to the latest research techniques and strengthening capacity building.
Eligibility criteria:
[1] Applicants should contact the center Group Leader with a motivation letter, to determine availability of laboratory space, and to define the research project proposal that will form an integral part of the application.
[2] Applicants must be nationals of an ICGEB Member State (Algeria, Egypt, Iraq, Jordan, Kuwait, Libya, Morocco, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Sudan, Syria, Tunisia, UAE) and may not apply for fellowships to be undertaken in their country of origin, unless working abroad at the time of the application.
[3] Applicants for Italy and South Africa must hold a Bachelor of Science with Honors, and applicants for India must hold a Master of Science.
[4] Candidates must have a good working knowledge of the English language, supported by a proficiency certificate (TOEFL, Cambridge Certificate, or equivalent). Not required when scholastic education has been undertaken in English.
Benefits:
[1] Monthly stipend: €1,300 for those going to Italy, $1,020 for those going to India and 12,500 ZAR for those going to South Africa
[2] Provision for travel expenses from the participant’s home country to the lab at the beginning of the fellowship and a return travel provision
[3] Medical health insurance coverage is provided for the duration of the fellowship
[4] Visa/permit of stay application and renewal costs are reimbursed
[5] Accommodation is provided
