The University of Glasgow in the United Kingdom offers a number of scholarships for applicants to the University who are staying in the UK on humanitarian grounds and are facing challenges in progressing onto Higher Education.
Benefits
The Humanitarian Scholarship provides:
- Full tuition fee waiver for the duration of the study
- £5,000 per year stipend for study costs
- Accommodation costs for the duration of the study (University of Glasgow accommodation only)
The Refugee Scholarship provides:
For applicants with refugee status: £2,500 per year stipend
Eligibility criteria
To be eligible, applicants must:
- Hold a firm conditional or unconditional offer for study at the University of Glasgow for 2021/22; and
- have submitted, or are the dependent of someone who has submitted, an application to the UK Home Office for recognition as a Refugee under the 1951 UN Convention on the Status of Refugees (hereafter “The Convention”) and not yet received a decision from the Home Office on that application; or
- have been offered leave to remain in the UK on the grounds of Article 8 of the European Convention on Human Rights or under Paragraphs 276ADE – 276DH of the UK Immigration Rules, provided that the student has not become eligible for Student Support from the relevant student funding body in Scotland, England, Wales or Northern Ireland.

- Application Registration Card (ARC) or Biometric Residence Permit (BRP) – front and back.
- Immigration Bail Reporting Notice (this may also be referred to as a Temporary Admission Document or BAIL 201) – please include every page of this document.
If you are not subject to Home Office Temporary Admission/Immigration Bail Reporting, please provide your:
- Application Registration Card (ARC) or Biometric Residence Permit (BRP) – front and back
- The most recent documentation you have received from the Home Office in conjunction with your application/appeal – should show your Home Office reference number.
Note: Should your immigration status change partway through your studies, you should inform the Scholarships Team as soon as possible, as this may affect your eligibility for the scholarship. Changes to immigration status will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis. The scholarship funding will not necessarily cease automatically, but maybe recalculated.
