Are you a researcher at later ages of your PhD? Are you interested in Economics?
The United Nations University (UNU) is offering a funded PhD Fellowship program to doctoral students from around the world to utilize the resources and facilities at both the university and the World Institute for Development Economics Research (UNU-WIDER) in Finland for 2019. The fellowship helps students develop their PhD dissertation or thesis research on Economics, and work with researchers in areas of mutual interest. Fellows typically spend 3 consecutive months in the program before returning to their home institution. During their time in Helsinki, fellows also prepare one or more research papers and present a seminar on their research findings.
Eligibility criteria:
[1] Applicants must be enrolled in a PhD program and have shown ability to conduct research on Developing Economics
[2] Applicants must be fluent in oral and written English and possess good quantitative and/or qualitative analytical
skills
[3] Applicants working in other social sciences may apply but should keep in mind that UNU-WIDER is an economics-focused institute
[4] The program is especially addressed at researchers at later stages of their PhD
[5] Applications from suitably qualified early-career, female and developing country researchers are particularly encouraged to apply
Funding:
Selected applicants will be informed by email of the final decision within 4 weeks of the closing deadline. UNU-WIDER provides a travel grant to cover the costs of travel to and from the location of the PhD granting institution, medical insurance, and a monthly stipend of €1,600 to cover living expenses in Finland during the period of the fellowship. The fellowship doesn’t cover expenses related to dependents. Successful applicants must confirm their decision to take up the offer 2 weeks after being contacted.
