Funded Post-Doctoral Fellowship in Applied Agricultural Statistics/Biometrics at CIMMYT in Mexico

CIMMYT is seeking a world of early education to join the Genetic Resources and Statistics team of the Genetic Resources Program. This is a great opportunity to get a postdoctoral degree, where a fellow graduate to work with multidisciplinary teams to conduct applied research for poor farmers resources around the world. The candidate's experience in experimental design and data analysis can contribute to the development of genome and remote sensing techniques and other "large data" in effective decision support tools for scientists in this field. He will be a member of the Biostatistics and Statistics Unit (BSU), contributing to global capacity development activities and the development of research methods and publications.

The position will be based at CIMMYT’s headquarters in Texcoco, Mexico.

Duties of the Candidate:

1. Collaborate with CIMMYT and the two partner scientists to develop and implement research in applied statistical methodology to enhance the efficiency of CIMMYT or agricultural research for partners.
2. Maintain expertise in science and application of statistical methodologies in plant breeding, especially experimental design, multi-environment experiments analysis, GWAS and genomic selection (GS).
3. Provide statistical advice to CIMMYT world and partners. Areas of consultation include experimental design, multivariate experiment analysis, multivariate analysis, GWAS and GS.
4. Contribute to the development of scripts and tools for statistical analysis that can be used by scientists to analyze their data.
5. Participate in the development and delivery of training courses.
6. Publish (author or co-author) important results in influential journals, peer review.

Eligibility Criteria:

1. PhD degree in statistics, biometrics or quantitative genetics with a strong background in statistical analysis and computing.
2. Experience in one or more of the following areas: statistical analysis, mixed linear models, molecular data analysis, automated learning, quantitative heredity.
3. Good knowledge of the following statistical programs: SAS, R, ASReml.
4. Experience software in SAS or R or other programming languages such as C ++.
5. Experiment with biometrics and statistical analysis in relation to plant breeding or plant research activities.
6. Desire and ability to work with respect and comprehensiveness in a diverse, multicultural and multidisciplinary work environment.
7. The chosen candidate should demonstrate the following competencies: teamwork, cooperation, innovation and creativity, flexibility/ adaptability.

The position is for an initial fixed-term for two (2) years, after which further employment is subject to performance and the continued availability of funds.
