The African Institute for Mathematical Sciences (AIMS) invites African students who have recently obtained a PhD in Mathematics to apply for a postdoctoral fellowship in Tanzania funded by the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD). The purpose of the program is to provide opportunities to postdoctoral mathematicians under the guidance of the institute. The award lasts for a period of up to 2 years.
Eligibility criteria:
[1] Applicants must have completed their PhD degree not more than 6 years ago
[2] Applicants must be current or prospective teaching or research staff at a university or research institution in Sub-Saharan Africa
[3] Applicants must be invited by the African Institute for Mathematical Sciences
[4] Applicants must be nationals of an African country
[5] The project undertaken should not be a reworking or mere extension of the applicant’s doctoral research project
[6] The host institution has to adequately participate in the costs (e.g. infrastructure, other local expenses)
[7] The host and the applicant must have established close communication and devised a concrete concept note
[8] The implementation of the fellowship should contribute to develop staff exchange between Sub-Saharan African universities
What the fellowship covers:
[1] A flat-rate travel allowance (will be specified in the letter of award)
[2] A monthly research allowance of €100
[3] A monthly installment of €1,000
[4] If a health insurance is compulsory for work and/or visa regulations, DAAD will accept the costs for a standard tariff upon submission of receipt of paid invoice
