Opportunity description

The Edith Saurer Fonds is offering projects in the field of Historical Research conducted by Austrian and international post-doctoral scholars the opportunity to be funded by research grants for 2019. The Edith Saurer Fund for sponsoring projects in the field of historical research" was founded and provided with funds by the late University Professor Edith Saurer from the University of Vienna, who passed away in 2011. The grant will be awarded to research projects focusing on the following criteria:

  1. Investigating social inequality in contexts with issues of gender, social class, lifestyle, ethnicity and religious affiliations.
  2. Primary focus on Europe from the early modern period to the 20th century.
  3. Comparative and international studies.

Eligibility criteria:

  1. International and Austrian post-doctoral scholars are eligible to apply.
  2. The applicants commit themselves to conclude their research within the time limit set up in the proposal, which as a general rule should not exceed two years.
  3. The conclusion of the project is to be proven by a written final report or – preferably – a publication. If one or more publications derive from an award by the Edith Saurer Fund, the applicants commit themselves to explicitly mention this award. Furthermore, the applicants commit themselves to inform the Edith Saurer Fund on these publication/s and to deliver a link or bibliographic information that can be published on the website of the Edith Saurer Fund.
  4. Each project will be evaluated by at least two members of the Board of Trustees. The award and amount of the grant will be determined by the Board of Trustees. All decisions are final and binding in all respects and not subject to legal recourse. The payment of the grant takes place after the grant has been ceremoniously awarded to the applicant.

Funding:

Each year since 2013 one or several applicants have been granted a research grant from €5,000 to €20,000.
