Opportunity description

The Wenner-Gren Foundation in the United States is offering 8 funded Hunt Postdoctoral Fellowships in Anthropology to scholars with a PhD received no more than ten years ago at the time of the application and in the earlier stages of their career. The foundation aims to help a new generation of scholars who lack the time and resources to develop their research by enabling them through the funds to publish significant work that will impact the development of anthropology. The fellowship contributes to the foundation's overall mission to support basic research in anthropology and to ensure that the discipline continues to be a source of vibrant work that furthers our understanding of humanity’s cultural and biological origins, development, and variations. Applicants are not limited to a certain methodology, research location, or subfield as long as their research demonstrates a clear link to anthropological theory and makes a solid contribution to advancing these ideas. Research that employs a comparative perspective that can generate innovative approaches or ideas and/or uses two or more subfields are particularly welcomed. This fellowship may be used to support the preparation of a book or manuscript, journal articles, book chapters, or a combination of these forms of publication. Fellows will be selected six months after the application deadline.

The foundation provides $40,000 of financial support for twelve months of full-time work. Fellows requesting shorter time periods will receive less (e.g., a six-month fellow will be awarded $20,000).
