Opportunity description

Ramallah Municipality invites artists from all around the world to participate with their projects in the Mamarat (paths) residency program of the 2018 edition of the Qalandia International, in which participants will be part of Ramallah’s growing global networks in the field of culture. The theme of the program is 'Solidarity', which allowed the Palestinian community, in addition the collective spirit, to resist and survive against the colonial structures and regimes throughout history. The notions of the shared thoughts and values investigate meanings of solidarity and collectivism, while keeping the ‘Social Question’ as a beacon that may help come up with some answers to the question: “Who do we want to be as a society?”. Selection will be based on the professional excellence of the participants’ work and their plans for sharing the experience they gained during the residency with artists and institutions in their home country. The first residency will start in May 2018 as an introductory phase for research for 2 weeks. The second residency will take place by mid-September 2018, where the selected artists will work directly with the curator.

 Successful applicants will receive:

[1] An individual/collective living space

[2] Working space

[3] Grant of $500

[4] Project budget up to $2,000

[5] Reimbursement of travel costs

There will also be an exhibition organized by the municipality and curated by Reem Fadda in which the participants will get the chance to meet local Palestinian artists and art professionals, in addition to collaborating on the project development with a curator. Visa and insurance fees will not be covered.
