Opportunity description

The University of Alberta in Canada is offering approximately 10-15 Medical Sciences Graduate Program Scholarships as a contribution to students registered full-time in a thesis based Master of Science or PhD in Medical Sciences Graduate Program (MSGP) in the Faculty of Medicine and Dentistry.

Eligibility criteria:

[1] Students must be currently registered or accepted to start as of January 2019 as a full-time thesis based graduate student in the Medical Sciences Graduate Program (Master of Science or PhD) in one of the following departments in the Faculty of Medicine and Dentistry:

 Anesthesiology and Pain Medicine, Dentistry, Laboratory Medicine and Pathology, Medical Genetics, Obstetrics and Gynecology, Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences, Pediatrics, or Radiology and Diagnostic Imaging

[2] Students may not currently hold any major awards ($13,000 or greater) or any other stipend award from the Faculty of Medicine and Dentistry

[3] Students may be eligible to hold this award more than once

[4] Award will be withdrawn if the student ceases to maintain full-time registration

[5] Students must be in "good standing" with Medical Sciences Graduate Program (MSGP), which means that they must comply with the PhD proposal submission and candidacy completion timelines established by the MSGP (found in Outline of Responsibilities). That is, doctoral students must submit a PhD proposal package within 24 months of the start of their graduate program, and must pass the candidacy exam within 6 months of the MSGPC's approval of their proposal (This does not apply to students who have already completed the requirements, prior to May 1, 2018)

Award:

Scholarships are valued at $6,500 each as a contribution to the stipend. Successful applicants are announced in mid-December and are paid monthly from January 1 to December 31.
