Morisawa Type Design Competition 2019

Morisawa Inc offers the opportunity to be a part of its design competition to win cash prizes and awards through a competition in designing typefaces. Works accepted can be in both Kanji and English.

Entry and Award Categories:

1. Morisawa Award:
   • Entry works are to be judged for creativity and excellence of design.
   • Either or both of Kanji and Latin categories may be chosen. There is no limit to the number of submissions per entrant. Award winners receive a testimonial, a trophy and a sub-prize money as follow:
     • Kanji category:
       • Gold Prize: 1 million JPY (one award)
       • Silver Prize: 500,000 JPY (one award) 
       • Bronze prize: 300,000 JPY (one award)
       • Honorable Mention: 50,000 JPY (three awards) 
     • Latin category:
       • Gold Prize: 1 million JPY (one award)
       • Silver Prize: 500,000 JPY (one award)
       • Bronze prize: 300,000 JPY (one award)
       • Honorable Mention: 50,000 JPY (three awards)
2. People’s Choice:
   • The general public is invited to cast a vote for a favorite entry work online starting in May 2019.
   • The entry works for Morisawa Award can be registered. Entry to the People’s Choice is optional. Award winners receive a testimonial, a trophy, and a gift. 
3. Akashi Award:
   • Entry works are to be judged for a high degree of perfection and proposal abilities against the theme. Entry to Akashi Award is optional.
   • This time, the theme is “Variable fonts”. There is no distinction between the Kanji and Latin categories.
   • Morisawa Inc. will examine entries for Akashi Award. The judges will comprehensively evaluate whether your work is new and progressive as a variable font. Award winners receive a testimonial, a trophy, and a sub-prize money.
   • Prize money: 500,000 JPY(Up to three awards).

The competition is open to any individual, group, or nationality.
