Opportunity description

Munster Literature Centre invites writers from all around the world to participate in the Southword Fiction Chapbook Competition for 2018. The competition awards a 10,000-15,000 word novella, a long short story, several short stories, a collection of flash fiction or a mix of stories and flash.

Participation rules:

[1] Stories can be published previously in anthologies or in web or print journals, but not in a stand-alone publication by the author

[2] Nothing to identify the author must be included in the submitted manuscript document. All information about the contents’ previous periodical publication etc. will not be needed until the manuscript is selected for publication

[3] Authors are advised that the finished publications will not include illustrations. All manuscripts will be read and judged anonymously 

[4] Submitted manuscripts can be in PDF, WORD or RTF format

Prize

Winners will be announced by January 31, 2019. Two winning manuscripts will be selected, Best International Entry and Best Irish Entry. The winning chapbooks will be published and made available internationally through Amazon. Winning authors will also receive advances of €250 each and twenty copies of their chapbook, and the finished publications will be (along with preliminary pages) between 32-45 pages in length.  

About Munster Literature Center:

Founded in 1993, the Munster Literature Centre is a non-profit arts organization dedicated to the promotion and celebration of literature, especially that of Munster in Ireland. To this end, it organizes festivals, workshops, readings and competitions. The publishing section publishes a biannual journal, poetry collections and short stories, and actively seeks to support new and emerging writers that are assisted in the center’s efforts through funding from Cork City Council, Cork County Council and the Arts Council of Ireland.
