The Foundation d’entreprise Hermès announces the open call for its New Settings program 2018 for performing artists worldwide. The New Settings program is designed to support contemporary performing arts by providing assistance and fulfilling the needs of artists and back them at every step of their journey, from the studio to the stage.
The program supports productions exploring innovative audience engagement and interaction. Applicant should submit project ideas that take a fresh approach to the theatrical environment and develop new ways to make use of the space of the stage, objects, sound and the body. The proposed projects will be evaluated on expertise, skills, creativity, and the development of new art forms and modes of expression.
Proposed projects should fulfill the following criteria:
[1] The project can be the result of a creative collaboration between one or several performing artists and one or several visual artists.
[2] The project can be a work by a performing artist or a visual artist, on condition that the author is committed to a piece that mixes performing arts and visual arts.
[3] The project must propose new ways of working in the process of creating the piece and in its relationship to the public.
[4] The project must be designed for an audience of at least 100 people.
[5] The author(s) can make use of digital technology.
[6] The piece must be ready for its premiere between the months of January and December 2019.
Selected projects will be supported through their production phase, until their presentation on selected dates proposed by the Foundation and its partner cultural institutions in Paris and the broader Paris region, for the autumn 2019 season. Also, selected shows will be brought to the annual Crossing the Line Festival in New York, under the New Settings banner.
