<p>Liverpool University is offering <a href="https://www.for9a.com/en/opportunity/category/Scholarships/PhD">PhD</a> program <a href="https://www.for9a.com/en/opportunity/category/Scholarships">scholarships</a> in Plasma-enhanced catalytic CO2 conversion to value-added fuels. This project is part of a 4-year Dual PhD degree program between the National Tsing Hua University (Taiwan) and the University of Liverpool (<a href="https://www.for9a.com/en/country/United-Kingdom" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">England</a>). As part of the NTHU-UoL Dual PhD Award students are in the unique position of being able to gain 2 PhD awards at the end of their degree from two internationally recognized world-leading Universities. As well as benefiting from the rich cultural experience, students can draw on large-scale national facilities of both countries and create a worldwide network of contacts across two continents.</p><h3>Project Description:</h3><p>The latest set of projects targeted goal #11 from the UN Sustainable Development Goals: Sustainable Cities and Communities.<br>Reducing CO2 emissions from major sources such as power plants and industrial processes is critical to achieving the COP21 target of limiting average global temperature increase to well below 2 oC above the pre-industrial level. The chemical transformation of CO2 into value-added fuels and chemicals has attracted significant interest to tackle global warming and climate change and its key to develop a sustainable low carbon economy in the chemical and energy industry. Plasma-catalysis has been considered as a radical new approach for activating CO2 at low temperatures and ambient pressure. The aim of this dual PhD degree project is to develop a novel plasma-catalytic process for the conversion of CO2 into higher-value fuels and chemicals under ambient conditions. The project will focus on the design and development of novel nanomaterials (e.g., single nanoparticle catalysts) for plasma-enhanced catalytic conversion of CO2. Ex-situ and in-situ catalyst characterization, plasma diagnostics combined with DFT calculations will be used to elucidate the possible reactions in the complex plasma-catalytic reaction. The project will bring researchers from both universities with complementary expertise in plasma chemistry, plasma catalysis, catalyst design, nanomaterial fabrication, and computational catalysis to address the key energy challenges related to social and economic need.</p><h3>Benefits:</h3><p>This project is a part of a 4-year dual PhD program between National Tsing Hua University (Taiwan) and the University of Liverpool (England). Students should spend equal time studying in each institution.
