The European Research Council (ERC) at the Geary Institute for Public Policy in cooperation with the University College Dublin invites students with a master’s degree to apply for up to 3 doctoral fellowships within the ERC Project ‘Labor Politics & the EU’s New Economic Governance Regime’ starting on September 10, 2018. Applicants must hold a master’s degree or equivalent in Social Sciences and have received training in sociology, political science, social anthropology, industrial relations or related disciplines. They should also have experience with qualitative research, good general knowledge of labor politics, and a good command of English. Knowledge of additional European languages is a strong advantage. Successful applicants will be part of an interdisciplinary, multinational team and must enroll in the doctoral program of the Graduate Schools of Business, Social Sciences and Law. PhD project proposals must be original, independent, within the scope of the ERC project, and these can be situated in labor studies, sociology, social anthropology, political economy, or comparative politics. They may also include:
[1] Contentious politics, social movements, trade unionism, transnational collective action, interest group politics, EU politics, political and social consequences of economic crisis, social justice, Euroscepticism, class politics, technocracy and democracy.
[2] Interactions between national and EU public policy (e.g. Germany, Italy, Romania and/or Ireland), access to public services (e.g. right to water, healthcare or transport), labour relations, labour law and social
policy (e.g. wages, pensions, labour regulations).
The fellowship provides a tax-free scholarship (€18,000 per year plus €6,170 per year as a fee remission grant), a 4-year contract, access to structured PhD program including language modules, a laptop, and coverage of conference and fieldwork expenses.
