Opportunity description

Queensland University offers scholarships for a full-time, highly motivated Ph.D. candidate to perform high-quality research in the field of rock testing and fracture mechanics at the University of Queensland in Australia. The successful candidate will be working under the supervision of Dr. Mehdi Serati and Professor David Williams the Geotechnical Engineering Centre (GEC) within the School of Civil Engineering. The candidate will join a multidisciplinary team in partnership with industry partners.

Eligibility Criteria:

  • You have to prove you are prepared for Ph.D. study. You do this by showing you:
  1. have completed some research experience
  2. have completed an approved university degree (Bachelor’s degree - Master’s degree)
  3. can meet the English language requirements.
  • An approved degree needs to be:
  1. in an area relevant to your proposed Ph.D. project and
  2. completed no more than 10 years ago.
  • You need to demonstrate some research experience to be accepted into a Ph.D. If you can show you have planned and written a research project with some independence, you have enough experience to apply.

Selection Criteria:

  • Applications will be judged on a competitive basis taking into account the applicant’s previous academic record, publication record, honors and awards, and employment history.
  • The applicant will demonstrate academic achievement in the field/s of fracture mechanics and the potential for scholastic success.
  • A background or knowledge of geotechnical engineering is highly desirable.

Award:

$28,092 per annum
