The University of Otago in New Zealand is offering postgraduate students from all over the world the opportunity to apply for 3-year Rei Foundation Doctoral Scholarships at the National Center for Peace and Conflict Studies for 2018. The scholarship is awarded to 2 exceptional students to continue their studies at one of New Zealand’s first centers to combine global cross-disciplinary expertise on the issues of non-violence, development, peacebuilding and conflict transformation. It offers postgraduate programs at the Master’s and PhD level, conducts high-level research on the causes of violent conflict and the conditions for sustainable peace and provides training. The scholarship aims to provide PhD graduates with the most advanced theoretical insight into the origins and management of violent conflicts as well as skills for dealing with that in their future academic or practical work.
Applicants must:
[1] Have a practice and/or policy background and a commitment to pursing projects that build on the following strengths of the Center after graduation:
- Nonviolent movements and Pacifism
- Development and Peacebuilding
- Post Conflict Reconstruction: Transitional Justice, Reconciliation and Social Healing
- Peace Education
- Critical Peace Studies
- Arms Control and Disarmament
- Intergroup Relations and Trust
- Social-Psychological Dimension of Peace and Conflict
[2] A minimum of 2 years’ work experience in the field of conflict/peace related issues
What the scholarship covers:
The scholarship will be funded through the University of Otago, by providing an annual stipend of NZ$25,000 for up to 36 months (3 years) and covering the tuition fees.
