Opportunity description
The University of Newcastle in Australia invites international students to apply for the PhD program or the Master of Philosophy program as part of the Research Training Program (RTP), a scholarship funded by the Commonwealth Department of Education. The University and Commonwealth Government scholarships will be given based on the academic qualifications, research credentials, prior experience and the strength of the application.
Applicants must:
[1] Have satisfied all the requirements of admission to the degree of Bachelor with Honors Class 1 or Honors Class II, Division 1 or any other degree approved for this purpose by the Assistant Dean of Research Training
[2] Have achieved by subsequent work and study a standard recognized by the Assistant Dean of Research Training as equivalent to at least Honors Class II, Division 1
[3] In exceptional cases submit evidence of possessing such other academic or professional qualifications and/or experience as may be approved by the Assistant Dean of Research Training on the recommendation of the relevant school
[4] In the disciplines of education, medical physics, nursing, social work, social sciences, and surgery, have completed a minimum standard of professional experiences required by the Assistant Dean of Research Training on the recommendation of the school; an Australian honors degree with Class 1 or Class 2 Division 1. For international students, a 4-year Bachelor degree including a significant research training component attained at a high standard is commonly considered equivalent to an Australian Honors degree
[5] Be proficient in English
Value of scholarship:
The scholarship, funded by the University of Newcastle or the Commonwealth Government, provides an annual living allowance of $27,082 per annum (2018 rate - indexed annually). The scholarships for international students cover the cost of tuition fees, and in some cases include the cost of compulsory Overseas Student Health Cover.
