McGill University Department of Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies invites application from graduate students of any nationality interested in taking part of Richard Tomlinson Fellowship Program 2018. Richard H. Tomlinson enjoyed a career in Chemistry that won him national recognition as a university teacher and success as an inventor and entrepreneur. In the year 2000, he created an exceptional series of recruitment student awards with the aim of giving the finest young minds the opportunity to study at McGill University.
All Tomlinson Doctoral Fellowships are for recruiting new graduate students to McGill. Visiting students at McGill, who are completing the requirements for a degree from another university, may apply. Only applicants with a 1st class academic record (A- or better overall grade or ≥ 3.70/4.00) will be considered.
A student is nominated by their academic unit to the Department/Unit/School where they intend to study. Departments will perform a pre-selection of doctoral applicants and will submit, at most, 3 nominations to the Faculty of Medicine Research and Graduate Studies Office, along with all supporting documents to the Faculty of Medicine Research and Graduate Studies Office. Once received at the Faculty of Medicine, Research and Graduate Studies Office, applications will be screened for completeness and forwarded to a central committee for final review and ranking.
Applications will be evaluated based on:
[1] Academic Excellence (35%)
[2] Research ability or potential (40%)
[3] Communication, interpersonal and leadership abilities (5%)
[4] Quality of the chosen research environments (20%)
Candidates and departments will be informed by the Faculty of Medicine, Research Office of results of the Doctoral competition in late July.
The Tomlinson Doctoral Fellowship will be $35,000, renewable annually based on satisfactory progress and maintenance of eligibility, to a maximum tenure of 3 years.
