Opportunity description
The Swiss National Science Foundation (SNSF) awards Ambizione grants to outstanding postdoctoral researchers who intend to pursue an academic career at a Swiss research institution within the higher education sector or at a non-commercial research institution outside the higher education sector. The grant aims to enhance researchers’ scientific profile and to help them become scientifically independent at an early stage in their career by conducting, managing and leading their own research project. The grants are open to researchers from all disciplines, and researchers working as non-professional teaching staff at higher education institutions are entitled to apply for project funds under the Ambizione grants. The purpose of this scheme is to generate direct competition for research funds between all researchers at the same stage in their careers, regardless of whether they already hold a position.
Eligibility criteria:
[1] Applicants must hold a PhD or have completed their medical studies (Staatsexamen or equivalent exam)
[2] Applications may be submitted no later than four years after completing the PhD
[3] Applicants who have completed their medical exam and have done clinical work for at least three years after completing their studies (specialist certification by the FMH is an advantage) may submit an application no later than 9 years after completion of the medical exam
[4] There must be research activities of at least 12 months after the PhD and the medical exam undertaken at an institution different from the one where the doctorate was obtained
[5] Researchers doing clinical work must devote at least 80% of the funded work-time percentage to the project and training related to the project
Funding:
An Ambizione grant comprises the salary of the researcher and project funds, while an Ambizione project grant contains only project funds. The grants are awarded for a maximum of four years.
