Are you interested in developing higher education systems and teaching methodologies? Are you ready to take part in a higher education development program with researchers and scholars from around the world?

Tuning Academy is a project for universities in more than 120 countries that offers a methodology for designing and implementing learning-centered degree programs. Tuning projects have proved to be powerful instruments for promoting understanding and cooperation between institutions, countries and regions across the world. it has developed a methodology for building compatible and comparable degrees that are relevant to societies. As a community, Tuning is based on a philosophy of inclusiveness, equality and sharing. It now comprises a global network of interconnected communities of practitioners who work on the improvement of the quality of higher education focused on teaching, learning and assessment. 

Tuning Academy invites applications from young researchers and scholars working in the field of education development for the Tuning Academy Short-Visits Scholarship Initiative 2018. The Short-Term Visits Scholarship scheme has been established in order to bring together academics who have already been exploring Tuning-related topics, and PhD students/junior academics interested in researching one of the four broad topics that follow:
[1] Analyzing and evaluating the impact produced by the Tuning projects at the level of particular higher education programs/institutions/countries/regions
[2] Approaches to learning, teaching and assessment of generic competences
[3] Staff development initiatives that facilitate implementation of competence-based approaches
[4] Curriculum reform and incorporation of the Tuning approach in institutional and national policies

The Deusto International Tuning Academy (DITA) and the University of Deusto, Spain, offer 10 scholarships for a four-week research visit between October 2018 and June 2019. During this one-month visit, the candidates will get the opportunity to prepare an article for an international peer-reviewed journal – Tuning Journal for Higher Education.

Applicants must be:
[1] Young researcher enrolled in doctoral programs elsewhere and focusing on a topic related to DITA’s current priority research lines 
[2] Scholars holding a PhD and currently actively engaged in post-doctoral research on a topic related to DITA’s current priority research lines
[3] University staff not usually involved in research activities but interested in conducting research on one of the four topics
There are no limitations as to country of residence, nationality, age or gender. The only formal limitation is a high level of English. Selected candidates need to be capable of producing a high-quality academic article  and of making their end-of-stay public presentation in English.

This opportunity provides the following funding and support:
[1] A standard health insurance for the 4 weeks
[2] Full or partial reimbursement of the travel costs for a return ticket (up to 500 euros)
[3] Accommodation and maintenance support
[4] On-site access to DITA databases and the University of Deusto library
[5] Methodological advice on research topic
[6] Practical and logistic support while in Bilbao

An international selection panel will evaluate the applications taking into consideration the quality of the research project proposed and its appropriateness in terms of DITA’s research priorities, the research record of the candidate and their potential for long-term collaboration. Pre-selected candidates will be notified by 18 May 2018 and will be required to submit a detailed outline of the article, which they plan to prepare as a result of their stay. The final selection results will be announced after the revision of the detailed outlines and a short online interview by July 2, 2018.
