Residency 108 invites emerging and established artists, writers and thinkers of all disciplines and those who work with nature, ecology and the installation of temporary outdoor land-art works to immerse themselves in their creative practice in a remote pastoral land that takes place in in Germantown, NY, United States.
About the Residency
Participants will be offered four-week residence from September 30th to October 28th, 2019. Each resident will be asked to present their work during the residency and weekly critiques are held as a group, sometimes with a visiting critic. The program takes place on 108 acres of pastoral land which was used as a horse farm in the last century. The property features rolling hills, mowed paths, meadows, densely wooded forests, wetlands with a few ponds of varying size and a seasonal stream. In addition to these ecosystems a variety of native plant species host habitats for birds, reptiles and amphibians. This program is ideal for artists who wish to engage with the landscape and prefer isolation to interaction.
Funding
- The program accommodates three artists at a time. Each resident is provided with a room.
- Working facilities and a stipend for food will be provided during their stay.Participants will be responsible for cooking their own meals.
- There´s no vehicles for residents. However, weekly trips to shop for supplies and food will be provided.
Eligibility
- Artists of any age from any country may apply.
- Solo artists as well as collaborating teams of up to three people are accepted.
- Residency 108 is looking for applicants whose practice involves a defined engagement with landscape, ecology, and or projects that employ historical or first-hand research of the 108 site.
- Applicants who have social practice or an interest in community engagement are not eligible due to the isolated nature of the site.
Required documents
- Copy of resume.
- Statement of intent.
- Please include the name of the organization or website where you found the listing for the program.
- Writers: Two work samples – up to 20 pages each.
- Visual artists: 10 images with title, date, dimensions, and medium. Video work up to 15 minutes may be submitted.
- Composers or Chreographers: 5-10 video or audio samples with title and date up to 15 minutes, (still images may also be included if applicable).
- Any online viewing format such as Vimeo or Youtube is acceptable for submissions. For large files please compress or send via Wetransfer.
