ARES Master and Internship grants offer candidates the opportunity to take a one-year specialization master's degree or a four to six-month advanced training course at an establishment of the Wallonia-Brussels Federation in Belgium.
Available Specializations for the Master's Program:
- Master of specialization in development, environment and societies
- Master of specialization in human rights
- Master of specialization in aquatic resources management and aquaculture
- Master of specialization in risk and disaster management
- Master of specialization in integrated management of health risks in developing countries (GIRISS)
- Specialized Master in International and Development Economics
- Master of Specialization in Transfusion Medicine
- Specialized Master in Microfinance
- Master of specialization in integrated production and preservation of natural resources in urban and peri-urban areas
- Specialized Master in Public Health Methodology
- Master of Specialization in Public Health Sciences - Research Methods Applied to Global Health
- Master's degree in Science and Environmental Management in Developing Countries
- Master of specialization in transport and logistics
Available Subjects for the Internships:
- Internship in control and quality assurance of medicines and health products
- Research internship for health systems strengthening
- Internship in geographical information system
- Internship in valorization of secondary resources for a sustainable construction
- Methodological internship in support of innovation in family farming
Financial Support
The amount of financial support for the master programs:
- International Travel Expenses: In economy class on an IATA company, maximum one round trip per academic year.
- Subsistence allowance: €1150 per month for a period of 12 months.
- Indirect mission expenses: €150 amount awarded once per stay, upon arrival of the fellow.
- Installation, didactic and return costs: €700 amount awarded once per stay, upon arrival of the fellow.
- Registration fees: At the reduced rate for DGD Fellows.
- Insurance costs : Directly paid by the ARES.
- Travel expenses for inter-university training: Reimbursed on the basis of actual costs and vouchers.
The amount of financial support for the internships:
- International Travel Expenses: In economy class on an IATA company, a round trip.
- Subsistence allowance:
- €83 per day for stays of eight to 17 days
- €1400 per month for stays of 18 days to one month (fixed amount)
- €1400 per month for stays of one to six months, prorated to the number of days
- Indirect mission expenses: €150 amount awarded once per stay, upon arrival of the fellow.
- Insurance costs: Directly paid by the ARES.
- Travel expenses for inter-university training: Reimbursed on the basis of actual costs and vouchers.
Eligibility:
In order for the application to be admissible, the candidate must:
- Either from a developing country. To be eligible, applicants must reside and work in their country at the time of submission.
- Only nationals of the following countries are allowed to apply for ARES scholarships: Benin, Bolivia, Burkina Faso, Burundi, Cambodia, Cameroon, Cuba, Ecuador, Ethiopia (only for training in English), Haiti, Madagascar, Morocco, Niger, Peru, Philippines, DR Congo, Rwanda, Senegal, Vietnam.
- Either less than 40 years old for courses, and less than 45 years old for internships, at the beginning of the training.
- Holds a diploma comparable to a second cycle degree in Belgian university education. However, for some courses, different requirements may be stated, which will then be specified below.
- Demonstrates a relevant professional occupation in a developing country at least two years after the end of the second cycle of university, or three years after graduation when the candidate holds a postgraduate degree by a university in an industrialized country.
- Have a good knowledge of written and spoken French. For courses organized in another language, it is necessary to have a good knowledge of the language of the course, written and spoken. Candidates will also be asked to commit to learning French in order to participate in everyday life in Belgium.
- Postulated for a single training.
Candidates must not first obtain admission to one of the French-speaking universities in Belgium to apply for ARES scholarships.
