<p>Sheikh Hamad Award for Translation and International Understanding has been established in 2015 in Doha, Qatar. It invites translators all over the world to participate in the contest for 2019. The award seeks to honor translators and acknowledge their role in strengthening the bonds of friendship and cooperation among people and nations of the world. It also aspires to inculcate a culture of knowledge and dialogue, promotes Arab and Islamic culture and encourages cross-cultural interaction between Arabic and other languages through the medium of translation.</p><p><strong>Award Categories(year 2019):</strong></p><ol><li>Translation from Arabic into English (200,000 USD)</li><li>Translation from English into Arabic (200,000 USD)</li><li>Translation from Arabic into Russian (200,000 USD)</li><li>Translation from Russian into Arabic (200,000 USD)</li><li>Achievement Award (200,000 USD)</li></ol><h3><strong>Achievement Awards:</strong></h3><p>The value of each one of these awards is maximum (US$100.000).</p><ol><li>Translation from Arabic into Bahasa Indonesia.</li><li>Translation from Bahasa Indonesia &nbsp;into Arabic.&nbsp;</li><li>Translation from Arabic into Malayalam.</li><li>Translation from Malayalam into Arabic.</li><li>Translation from Arabic into Portuguese.&nbsp;</li><li>Translation from Portuguese into Arabic.&nbsp;</li><li>Translation from Arabic into Somali.</li><li>Translation from Somali into Arabic.</li><li>Translation from Arabic into Uzbek.</li><li>Translation from Uzbek into Arabic.</li></ol><h3><strong>Rules of Submission:</strong></h3><ol><li>Submission of entries will be announced in the spring of each year.</li><li>Nominations at present are limited to the fields of the humanities and the social sciences.</li><li>Submissions can be made by individuals or institutions (publishing houses, research centers, translation institutes, university departments, etc.).</li><li>All nominees must be living at the time of the nomination.</li><li>Only one translated work is accepted for nomination by individuals in the First Category. Institutions can nominate up to three translated works by three different translators.</li><li>All nominated translations in the First Category must have been published in the five years prior to the announcement date of the Award.</li><li>The Achievement Prizes are not subject to time limitation and can be awarded to a set of works/achievements of a lifetime.</li><li>The Steering Committee has the right to nominate translators and/or translations that had not been nominated.</li><li>The Steering Committee has the right to avail itself of the winning translations and translators in advertising, publicity and promotion of the Award.</li><li>Previous winners of Sheikh Hamad Award for Translation and International Understanding cannot be accepted for nomination again before the passage of five years.</li></ol>
