Opportunity description

Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) encourages everyone from all over the world to participate in the Solve Challenge and submit their solutions to global challenges. The Solve Challenge is looking for innovators and entrepreneurs who have just started building their solutions or are at any stage of their projects that introduce new tech, human-centered solutions.

MIT considers solutions at any stage including:
[1] the idea stage. But please note that your solution is less likely to be selected if it’s still only at the concept stage.
[2] prototype: a venture building and testing its product.
[3] pilot: an enterprise deploying a tested product, service, or business model in at least one community.
[4] growth: an enterprise with an established product or service which is poised for further growth in multiple communities or countries.
[5] scale: a sustainable enterprise working in several communities or countries, looking to scale significantly, focusing on increased efficiency.
All submitted solutions must include a technology as key component.

Selection process:

The first round of judging takes place once solutions close. Solve staff will perform an initial screening of all applications for completeness, for coherency, and for whether the solution appropriately addresses the challenge. judges will score the screened applications based on its alignment, potential for impact, scalability, feasibility and innovative approach.

Participants will gain:

Selected finalists will be invited to a live pitch event between September 22-24 in New York where the most promising solutions are selected to make up that year's Solver class. The Solver class then gains access to Solve’s community of leaders from the tech industry, business, philanthropy, government, and civil society who are seeking partnerships and opportunities to implement innovative, scalable ideas. Solve staff works with selected Solvers to create industry-standard profiles ready to be disseminated to potential investors, advisors and distributors. Solve will also provide grants of $10,000 to all selected solutions in Solve’s current global challenges.

About Solve at MIT:

Solve at MIT is an annual event held on the MIT campus in Cambridge, Massachusetts, bringing together over 300 leaders from the tech industry, business, philanthropy, government, and civil society. Solvers and their solutions will be featured on stage, in online and written materials, and through dedicated challenge workshops. Solve staff will continue supporting the Solver class to match-make partnerships with community members who will help make Solver solutions a reality.
