Opportunity description

The Goi Peace Foundation is organizing the Annual International Essay Contest in an effort to harness the energy, creativity and initiative of the world's youth in promoting a culture of peace and sustainable development. The contest aims to inspire society to learn from the young minds and to think about how each of us can make a difference in the world.

The theme of this year’s contest is “The Change I Want to Make”. Participants should discuss in their essays the one thing they would like to change the most to make their school, workplace, community, country or the world a better place and how they would bring about that change.

Participation Guidelines:
[1] Essays may be submitted by anyone up to 25 years old in one of the two age categories; Children (ages up to 14) and Youth (ages 15 - 25).
[2] Essays must be 700 words or less in English, French, Spanish or German, or 1600 characters or less in Japanese, excluding essay title and cover page.
[3] Essays must be original and unpublished. Plagiarized entries will be rejected.
[4] Essays must be written by one person. Co-authored essays are not accepted.
[5] Applicants can submit more than one essay as long as the contents are different. They can also be written in different languages.

Winners of both categories will be awarded as follows:
[1] first place winner will receive a certificate, a gift and a money prize valued at $900
[2] 2 second place winners will receive a certificate, a gift and a money prize valued at $450
[3] 5 third place winners will receive a certificate and a gift
[4] 25 honorable mentions will receive a certificate and a gift

All prize winners will be announced on October 31, 2018 (Japan time) on the contest’s official website. Certificates and gifts will be mailed to the winners in December 2018. Only first place winners will be invited to the award ceremony to be held in Tokyo, Japan on November 23, 2018 and will receive the Minister of Education Award. Travel expenses to the ceremony will be covered by the organizers.
