Opportunity description
The Spindle invites all types of actors and organizations to submit their innovative projects as part of the Innovation Awards 2018. The Spindle is looking for new solutions that work for inclusive and sustainable development. New projects, programs, policies, business models or approaches within the existing realm of NGOs and new products, ventures or services that emerge from start-ups, social entrepreneurs, business or knowledge workers outside the development sector. Innovative projects may be initiatives that have already proven to be effective or have just passed the first test pilot phase.
The Spindle Jury will select the winners of the Main Prize and the Celebrate Inclusion Prize. However, The Public Award will be awarded to the innovation that received the highest score in the online public voting. Winning projects will be part of an accelerating program and will be showcased in during the annual Partos Innovation Festival on October 11, 2018.
Selection criteria:
[1] Thematic focus: The innovation contributes to the achievement of the SDGs.
[2] The innovation was introduced no longer than three years ago.
[3] The innovation contributes to the solution of a clear problem in development cooperation and/or civil society organisations.
[4] Originality: The innovation provides a distinctive, new solution to a development cooperation need.
[5] Impact.
[6] Involvement of the target group.
[7] financial sustainability.
[8] Gender: how the innovation contributes to gender balance, and/or improves the situation of women.
[9] Scalability.
[10] Appealing.
Prizes:
[1] Main prize: The Spindle Award for Best Innovation granted by the Spindle Jury. Winners of the main prize will receive cash prizes and be supported by Han Valk Fundraising Consultancy.
[2] Public Award for Best Innovation granted to the winning projects of the online voting. Winners will be supported by Han Valk Fundraising Consultancy.
[3] Celebrate Inclusion Award granted by the Spindle jury. Winners will receive cash prizes.
In case of nomination, competitors are provided an opportunity to pitch their idea at the Partos Innovation Festival 2018. In preparation, they will be offered a pitch training. Travelling to the pitch training and to the Innovation Festival will be on their own expenses.
About The Spindle:
The Spindle initiative was initiated by Partos, the association of Dutch NGOs working in international development, to connect innovators among Dutch and global actors into an online and offline movement for inclusive, sustainable development. The Spindle is financially made possible by a grant from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
