Opportunity description
Are you a peace activist in a conflict-affected country? Do you want to be awarded for your hard work in peacebuilding?
Peace Direct invites grassroots peace activists in conflict-affected countries worldwide to participate in Tomorrow’s Peacebuilders global awards which offers annual international recognition to local peacebuilding. Tomorrow’s Peacebuilders are inspiring individuals working together to build a better tomorrow in some of the world’s most fragile areas. The awards were launched in 2013 and are the only of their kind in the world.
Participating organizations must:
[1] Undertake peacebuilding work – your organization is either a peacebuilding organization or has peacebuilding as a substantial element of your work
[2] Be locally based – your organization must be based in the country or communities where your work is done. If your organization operates in multiple countries, you are not eligible to enter. Cross-border projects are eligible.
[3] Be an independent organization, not an in-country or satellite organization of an international NGO
[4] Be working, or planning to work, in at least one of the following thematic areas: women-led peacebuilding, youth-led peacebuilding, or non-violent action
[5] Applicants are preferred to be received in English. If participants are not comfortable writing answers in English, they can either use French or Spanish
Prizes:
Projects will be judged based on the quality of the peacebuilding plans and not on the standard of the language used. Three winning organizations will each receive $10,000 and online promotion of their work, plus 5 years’ free membership of the Alliance for Peacebuilding. Each will also receive an all-expenses paid trip to the award ceremony at PeaceCon 2018 in Washington, DC. They will be chosen by an international panel of experts including distinguished peace builders, political figures of reconciliation, the Alliance for Peacebuilding and 3 sponsors.
