The Meltwater Entrepreneurial School of Technology (MEST) offers ambitious, driven entrepreneurs who are looking to build the next generation of globally successful software companies a fully sponsored 12-month graduate-level entrepreneurial training in business, communications, and software development, including extensive hands-on project work, culminating in a final pitch and the chance to receive seed funding.

Applicants must have the following qualities:

  1. An entrepreneurial spirit and strong desire to start a company
  2. Demonstrated personal drive, stamina, and self-motivation
  3. Ability to meet goals and deadlines
  4. Ability to work well in teams
  5. Ability to communicate candidly and persuasively
  6. Confidence and independent thinking
  7. Demonstrated leadership abilities
  8. Proven academic excellence
  9. Excellent people skills

Successful applications have the following:

  1. A deep passion for starting a software company
  2. Entrepreneurial or corporate work experience
  3. A degree from a top University or Technical College (or equivalent experience)

Who is eligible to apply?

Business-oriented applicants who are interested in learning how to start a software company. While it's not a requirement to have previous coding experience, a strong interest in learning about technology is a must.

The MEST program covers:

Tuition, room and board, three meals per day, and a small monthly stipend.

About Meltwater Entrepreneurial School of Technology (MEST):

MEST offers aspiring entrepreneurs a fully sponsored, intensive 12-month training program. Entrepreneurs-in-Training (EITs) are sourced from top graduates in Ghana, Nigeria, Kenya, South Africa, and Cote d'Ivoire.

MEST was developed in Accra, Ghana in 2008, by Jorn Lyseggen, CEO of the Meltwater Group. He believes that talent is everywhere though the opportunity is not and that with the right support and guidance these aspiring entrepreneurs can achieve great things. This belief is the foundation of MEST, which sets out to prove that a new generation of successful global software youth entrepreneurs can originate in Africa.
