Opportunity description

The Universitat Rovira i Virgili was created in 1991 by the Parliament of Catalonia from the already existing university faculties and schools that are part of the Tarragona University. It aims to place knowledge at the service of society so as to contribute to the social and economic development of its environment, which has gradually transformed over time. Professionals are trained under the precepts of European harmonization, a key factor for opening the doors to a world without frontiers.

The Universitat Rovira i Virgili (URV) in Spain is welcoming applications for 28 predoctoral research fellowships in different research areas for students from around the world within the Martí i Franquès COFUND program. The fellowships are jointly funded by the European Union through the Marie Sklodowska-Curie Actions program, which is contributing four million euros to the program. The aim of the fellowship program is to promote mobility by encouraging applications from foreign students with a master’s degree or Spanish researchers who have lived abroad for more than two out of the last three years and to give them the opportunity to develop their research careers.

Applicants must:

[1] Not have resided or carried out their main activity in Spain for more than 12 months in the last 3 years immediately prior to July 31, 2018

[2] Hold a degree from another country in the Ecology, Evolution, Ecosystems & Society (EEES) which grants access to a master’s degree and have achieved a minimum of 300 ECTS credits of which at least 60 must be at the master’s level OR hold a qualification obtained in accordance with foreign educational systems without the need for official recognition, having previously confirmed with the university that this qualification accredits a level of training equivalent to the official Spanish university’s master’s degree and it would serve as means of access to a PhD in the country in which it was awarded

[3] Early stage researchers shall at the time of recruitment be in the first four years of their research careers and have not been awarded a doctoral degree

[4] Have full-time equivalent research experience which is measured from the date when a researcher obtained the degree which would formally entitle him/her to embark on a doctorate either in the country in which the degree was obtained or in the country in which the researcher is recruited, irrespective of whether or not a doctorate is or was ever envisaged

[5] Must have a good grasp of English

Fellows will receive a monthly salary of approximately €2,200, and the university will contribute with up to €7,500 each year to the cost of the fellow’s travel, research and training. The three-year contracts will start in October 2018.
