Undergraduate Virtual Research for GCC Undergraduates Organized by Abu Dhabi University

Abu Dhabi University is organizing and hosting the Eighth Undergraduate Virtual Research Competition, May 19th, 2022. This competition aims at encouraging universities in the GCC to promote scientific research among undergraduate students and to make it an integral part of university education, given the significance of scientific research in advancing the country to the top ranks. It also aims to instill life-long learning and to enhance career opportunities for young people, as well as foster entrepreneurial mindsets and attitudes in education, research, and innovation.

The upcoming competition is in direct support of the UAE government’s drive toward fostering innovation. The United Arab Emirates is being recognized worldwide as a major promoter of knowledge-based economy, towards which it is necessary that students become more actively involved in research to develop the country’s innovation systems.

The competition has witnessed over its life span an impressive growth in attracting undergraduate students from all over the UAE. The URC is the largest undergraduate research event in the entire GCC region and targets all major disciplines. Last year, over 260 research papers were presented from 17 disciplines by teams representing 44 major universities from across the region.

In line with the directives from the Ministry of Education instructing organizations to cease major gatherings/events, this year, the competition is expected to be held virtually.

Participation in the research competition will give an excellent opportunity to interact with some of the country’s best new minds, as the leading student researchers from other universities around the UAE and GCC will also attend and participate in the competition

How it works:

• Student research is learning at its best. It’s creative, absorbing and challenging and allows students to experience first-hand the process of scholarly exploration that characterizes an academic mindset. The students’ presentations in the one-day symposium will be judged by a Committee representing both academia and industry, and winners will be announced in the closing session of the competition.
• The awards will support the research endeavors of winning students thereby strengthening their critical and analytical thinking skills. It will enhance students’ confidence in their research abilities, allow them to explore new frontiers in their fields of study and prepare them for graduate level studies.
