Electric South in its 3rd year is offering the opportunity for African artists, to spend a week in The New Dimensions Lab, that aims to bring together diverse African artists to learn Virtual Reality (VR) storytelling from leading industry mentors. The Lab takes place over the course of a week at a private retreat where only six applicants will be selected to participate to engage in discussions and workshops and develop their creative projects. The Lab will run from 28 October until 3 November 2018 in South Africa
To be eligible to apply, you must be:
[1] Citizen or permanent resident of an African country
[2] Currently living on the African continent
[3] Accomplished in an artistic field. Any creative discipline is welcome. Past applicants have experience in: documentary and fiction film, theatre, performance & visual arts, fashion, photography, writing, design, creative technology and game development.
[4] Projects ideas must be non-fiction stories, as the Lab welcomes creative interpretation of documentaries. Also, the idea must use immersive technologies, such as Virtual Reality (VR) or Augmented Reality (AR). This could include 360 film, interactive worlds, animation, hybrid forms, and beyond.
Successful applicants will receive free travel tickets to South Africa and back to their home country, free accommodation, and meals throughout the course. All these expenses will be generously covered by Electric South.
Electric South is a non-profit company based in Cape Town, South Africa. The company provides mentorship, production services, funding and exhibition for a network of artists across Africa to explore their worlds through immersive, interactive stories including virtual and augmented reality, and other digital media. Electric South believes that new technologies must open up spaces for original voices and underrepresented narratives.
