Opportunity description

ESCWA announces a workshop entitled “Transition towards independent living in society for persons with disabilities” in Lebanon. The workshop will focus on the topic of the right to independent living for persons with disabilities, where the participants’ capacities will be built in the field of transition from isolation and shelter to community integration and independent living through review and analysis of relevant legal texts, relevant literature, and model practices in the selected countries.

Benefits

Participants whose participation costs are covered by the conference, including participants with disabilities and their assistants, will receive:
  • A daily subsistence allowance to cover the costs of accommodation, meals and other daily expenses (participants will be required to settle their bills directly with the hotel).
  • The cost of transportation from the airport.
  • The cost of air travel in economy class. Trip details will be sent to all participants (participants will be asked to confirm trip details once they receive them via email).
  • For participants from the State of Palestine, the organizers will cover the costs of ground travel to Amman, in addition to travel tickets to Oman – Beirut – Amman. Land travel will also be covered for participants from Yemen traveling via Aden, depending on the departure city.

Eligibility criteria

  • This workshop targets organizations of persons with disabilities in the Arab region and activists in the field of supporting the rights of persons with disabilities.
  • The training workshop will address the principles of independent living in accordance with Article 19 of the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, and will discuss the transition from institutional care to independent living, as well as challenges and best practices in that regard.
  • The seminar will include opening remarks, networking sessions among participants, and various interactive sessions aimed at promoting advocacy activities and inclusive practices.
