Opportunity description

The Chalmers University of Technology offers a fellowship opportunity to Assistant Professor of physics with tenure track. The Department of Physics at the Chalmers University of Technology seeks a highly motivated young researcher and engaged teacher with international experience to expand the research portfolio in experimental, theoretical, and/or applied physics. The appointment as Assistant Professor is a four-year entry-level faculty position with tenure-track, whereby you get the opportunity to further develop both pedagogical and scientific qualifications as well as improve the ability to formulate and solve scientific problems, publish scientific articles, and develop abilities in teaching and supervision.

Eligibility criteria

To qualify for this position, you must have:

  1. A doctoral degree in a relevant field. 
  2. The degree should not be older than seven years (excluding parental leave).
  3. Be active in all areas of physics and examples of research directions that could be fruitful to pursue include :
  4. Statistical physics.
  5. Physics-based on large infrastructures (external and/or in-house).
  6. Physics for a sustainable future.
  7. Development of visualization and analysis methods for biophysics and materials science.
  8. Interdisciplinary physics.
  9. The good potential within research and education.
  10.  International experience from postdoc position(s) and/or research and development in industry or the public sector is meritorious.
  11. Sound verbal and written communication skills in English. 

Please note: A progress follow-up will be conducted after two years and a final tenure assessment will be conducted towards the end of the period of appointment. 

Responsibilities:

Your primary duty as Assistant Professor is to:

  • Perform your own research.
  • Build a research group with international visibility. 
  • Teach for about 20 percent of your working hours, primarily on undergraduate and master's levels, as well as supervising PhD and MSc students.
  •  Collaboration within academia and with society at large.
