Awaji Youth Federation (AYF) offers a fully funded fellowship opportunity for the academic year 2022. It is a one-year live-in working internship on Awaji Island, Japan. It provides you the opportunity to challenge yourself and hone your individual skills in a multicultural environment that reflects both the needs of the Japanese workplace and the opportunities that come with a flexibly structured and stimulating `learning by doing` curriculum. AYF Fellows have a special chance to bring a unique global perspective to a highly localized regional community on Awaji Island in Japan.
The AYF Fellowship consists of 3 components that link to and support one another, namely:
- Lectures.
- Challenges.
- Projects.
Benefits
If you get this opportunity, you will be employed by the Pasona Group Inc. and have :
- Gross salary: JPY 250,000 ~ 2190 USD.
- Net salary per month: Approx. JPY 70,000 (~ 615 USD) after:
- Government fees and taxes: Approx. JPY 44,000/month (~386 USD).
- Program: JPY 90,000/month(~790 USD).
- Accommodation: JPY 26,000/month (~228 USD).
- Meals costs: JPY 20,000/month (~175 USD).
- 10 days of paid leave available six months into the Fellowship.
Please note: Applicants who are successfully selected need to fund their own travel costs to and from Japan.
Eligibility criteria
You must have:
- A Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree.
- English ability of TOEIC 800 or equivalent for non-native speakers. (Fluent both in speaking and writing).
- Japanese language skills are preferable.
- Commitment to solving society’s problems and contributing to the Pasona Group’s projects.
- Open to staying on Awaji Island after the year at AYF and continuing to work on regional revitalization.
- Core values of hard work, discipline, and care for others.
- Flexible, perseverance, and resilience.
- The ability and drive to translate ideas into concrete action.
Please note: Support will be offered for online study of the Japanese language on a fee basis.

Timeline:
- September 1st: Applications Open.
- November 30th: Application Deadline.
- December - January: Interviews / over skype.
- January 2022: Take necessary procedures for immigration and employment.
- April 2022: Fellowship Begins.

AYF Fellows are encouraged to use AYF effectively as a springboard taking them closer to the achievement of their own personal goals, some examples of common graduation pathways include:
- Employment with a Japanese company domestically or abroad.
- Establishment of a business as an entrepreneur.
- Work with an organization involved in social business.
- Work or internship with a Japanese government agency.
- Further study based on new skills acquired at AYF.
- Internship with an international organization.

It provides selected Fellows with the opportunity to challenge themselves and hone their individual skills in a multicultural environment that reflects both the needs of the Japanese workplace and the opportunities that come with a flexibly structured and stimulating `learning by doing` curriculum.
