The British Academy Visiting Fellowship Program offers distinguished scholars residing in any foreign country the opportunity to be based at a higher education or research institution in the UK. The program is open to academics at any stage of their career and in any discipline within the humanities and social sciences.
These fellowships reflect the British Academy's deep and ongoing commitment to international engagement. The program aims to ensure that the UK remains an attractive, welcoming, and productive research environment for scholars worldwide. The objectives of the program include:
- Strengthening and building new connections between scholars from around the world and the UK.
- Providing opportunities and encouraging the development of new and future partnerships for collaborative research in the humanities and social sciences.
- Enabling scholars from around the world to conduct research or professional development with their UK counterparts.
- Enhancing the research base in the UK in the humanities and social sciences.
Benefits
The maximum available funding is £40,000.
Eligibility criteria
- Applicants must be at the postdoctoral level or have equivalent research experience.
- They must be residing outside the UK at the time of application.
- Applicants must demonstrate contact with a UK host institution before applying.
- The British Academy welcomes applications from a diverse range of host institutions and especially encourages applications from historically or structurally marginalized groups, low-income countries, and female researchers.
