Partially Funded Residency Program for Scientists and Artists at IMéRA in France

IMéRA invites scientists and artists to a residency program that will last for 10 months; From September 4 2023 to July 5, 2024. This program aims to encourage innovative and interdisciplinary artistic research and to participate in the impact of research around cancer and immunology, through arts-sciences collaborations and research-creation in this field. So, the resident laureates will be required to develop their research around one or more of these three fundamental axes:

1. The therapeutic use of artistic practices by clinicians in the management of cancer.
2. The social representations of cancer in relation with patients' associations and their families for the production of illustrated books, films (etc.).
3. In a more epistemological perspective, a reflection on the relations between artistic practices and clinical and/or scientific practices.

If you get this opportunity, you'll have:

• Scientists remuneration
• Junior: €2,000 monthly allowance.
• Senior: €3,000 monthly allowance.
• Artists remuneration
• Artists will receive a €2,000 monthly allowance or salary (depending on their candidate status).
• Paid travel expenses and free accommodation on IMERA premises.

You should follow the following criteria:

• Applications are open to scientists from all fields, and to artists, whether they are junior or senior and following the specific criteria set by each program.
• Applicants must possess proven linguistics skills in French and English.
• Residents must be able to understand both languages verbally and in writing and master at least one of the two verbally and in writing.
• For scientists:
• Not to have lived in France more than 12 months during the three years preceding this call for applications.
• Hold a Doctorate or PhD.
• Are considered juniors, scientists who, at the closing date of the call for applications, have full-time postdoctoral research experience ranging between 2 to 9 years.
• Are considered seniors, scientists with minimum 10 years’ experience in full-time research after obtaining the PhD as at the closing date of the call for applications, and university professors.
• For artists:
• Not to have lived in France more than 12 months during the three years preceding this call for applications.
• No pre-requirements of diploma and employment contract.

• The scientific or artistic project on the basis of its:
• originality and rigor.
• risk-taking and the potential for experimentation.
• the place given to collaboration.
• making the most of opportunities within the intellectual community of IMERA.

About IMéRA:

IMéRA is a member of RFIEA (French advanced study institutes network) together with the Paris, Nantes, and Lyon IEAs (Institutes of Advanced Studies). IMéRA was founded in 2007 as a not-for-profit organization by the then three Aix-Marseille Universities (Université de Provence, Université de la Méditerranée, and Université Paul Cézanne) and the CNRS (French National Research Agency). It provides the best conditions for the reception of residents and the construction of an interdisciplinary intellectual community.
