Opportunity description
UNV offers a volunteer opportunity and announces its need for a Communication Specialist in Türkiye during the period from 27/10/2023 to 27/09/2024. The incumbent will be based at the WHO European Center for Preparedness for Humanitarian and Emergencies in Istanbul (PHHE) and you will work as a specialist and an expert in communication and advocacy. A proactive role in seeking guidance from colleagues, searching and analyzing evidence, and usage of WHO guidelines is foreseen.
Duties & responsibilities
You will be responsible for:
- Develop the WHO European Centre for Preparedness for Humanitarian and Health Emergencies (PHHE) Communication Strategy; analyze and support its implementation, monitoring, and evaluation.
- Support with media outreach and interviews on occasion, provide advice on the media landscape and draft talking points.
- Maintain a list of media professionals.
- Support and manage review of all communication and visibility materials to ensure they are in compliance with WHO rules.
- Maintain an information database and multimedia (photo, video, etc.) library for PHHE to support communications documentation.
- Lead on the production of materials (print and online) for various purposes such as reports, leaflets, and others including drafting and follow-up on the product design, production, and liaising with partners.
- Develop and post new relevant content (graphics/visuals) for PHHE's social media platforms.
- With the guidance of his/her supervisor organize and run live social media events.
- Support the logistics, promotion, and coordination of communication for virtual and in-person events organized by PHHE.
- Ensure the development of event reports.
- Provide technical expertise and support for all communication activities of PHHE.
- Perform any other communications-related duties as requested by the Head of Office.
- Maintain strong working relations with the WHO Regional Office and Headquarters, ensure both offices are informed about product and event plans.

Eligibility criteria
You must have:
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent in Communications, journalism, public relations, social sciences or another relevant field.
- 3 years of experience in health communication and advocacy.
- Proficient knowledge of social media platforms, including Twitter, Facebook, YouTube, LinkedIn, and Instagram, and any other platforms employed across the WHO European region.
- Proficiency in graphic design software and multimedia content creation tools.
- Good abilities in writing and editing as well as in print, photo editing, broadcasting, social media, and web administration.
- Solid overall computer literacy, including proficiency in various MS Office applications (Excel, Word, etc.) and email/internet.
- Familiarity with database management.
- Excellent oral and written skills; excellent drafting, formulation, and reporting skills.
- Ability to work and adapt professionally and effectively in a challenging environment.
- Have affinity with or interest in Good Health and Well-being, volunteerism as a mechanism for durable development, and the UN System.
- Adaptability, flexibility, and working in teams.
- Fluent in English and Turkish.
- Candidate must be a national of a country other than the country of assignment and aged 27 - 80.
