Opportunity description

The Derwent Art Prize competition is organized by The Cumberland Pencil Company, based in the UK. The competition is open to artists aged 18 or over on 1 January 2026.

Submitted work must be original, created in pencil (including water-soluble, pastel, graphite, charcoal or coloured pencils).

Each work must not exceed 182 cm in its greatest dimension, and there is no minimum size limit.

To enter the competition, participants must complete an online application form and upload images of their works. Artists selected for the exhibition will be required to deliver the original artworks.

Entry fees: £15 for the first work and £5 for each additional work.

Prizes:

  • First Prize: £4,000 plus a year’s supply of Derwent products
  • Second Prize: £2,000
  • Young Artist First Prize (for artists under 25 years): £4,000
  • Young Artist Second Prize (for artists under 25 years): £2,000
  • Peoples Choice Award: £500
  • New Artist Award (For artists who have not previously entered the Derwent Art Prize): £500
  • Educator’s Award: £500
