Opportunity description
The Friedrich Naumann Foundation for Freedom offers scholarships for international students from outside the European Union who wish to pursue a master’s degree or the main stage of state examination programs at a German university. The scholarship targets students with very good academic performance who are interested in liberal values, freedom, responsibility, civic engagement, and openness to the world.
Benefits
- Monthly funding for international students of up to EUR 861.
- Funding for international doctoral candidates of up to EUR 1,200 per month.
- Monthly contributions toward health insurance and long-term care insurance.
- The scholarship does not need to be repaid after completing the studies.
- The scholarship is initially awarded for one year, with the possibility of requesting an extension for an additional year until the completion of the study program.
- Non-financial support, including seminars, mentoring, training, networking, and participation in the foundation’s activities.
- An opportunity to join the student and alumni network of the Friedrich Naumann Foundation.
Eligibility criteria
- The applicant must be an international student from outside the European Union.
- The applicant must be studying or planning to study a master’s degree or the main stage of a state examination program at a German university.
- The study program must be full-time at a public or recognized university in Germany.
- The applicant must have at least two semesters remaining before completing the study program when the scholarship begins.
- The applicant must have good to very good academic performance.
- The applicant must demonstrate clear social, political, or voluntary engagement.
- The applicant must have a strong personality and an interest in liberal values, freedom, and social responsibility.
- The applicant must have a good level of German language proficiency, at least B2, as application documents and interviews are usually conducted in German.
- For doctoral candidates, the applicant must have unconditional admission to a doctoral program at a German university, and the research project must be clear and convincing.
